Progression Route from ABE to Bachelor or MBA Degrees

ABE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Certificate Programmes
No formal qualifications are required but applicants must demonstrate competence in the English language by the attainment of one of the following (or equivalent):
• British Council - Intermediate Certificate in English / Upper Advanced Certificate in English
• LCCI - English for Business (EFB) 1st or 2nd level. Pitman / City & Guilds - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) / English for Business Communications.
• RSA (OCR) - English language Stage 11
• Confirmation by their college of equivalent standard in the use of English. The decision of Council as to the suitability of the candidate shall be final.
Diploma Programmes
Applicants should be recommended by two responsible persons. They must also have attained one of the following entry requirements:
• ABE Certificate.
• Two GCE ‘A’ levels together with four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English language and Maths.
• BTEC National award in relevant subjects.
• Three passes in LCCI Third level in relevant subjects.
• Four passes in RSA examinations at least two of which must be at Stage 111.
• Pitman’s Qualifications - two passes at level 3 in relevant subjects.
• An ‘Access’ Certificate from a UK College of Further Education.
• Any NCVQ approved qualifications at level 3 in relevant subjects.
In addition, the ABE welcomes applications for student membership from intending Diploma candidates who, although not holding a formal entry qualification, have been in appropriate employment for at least two years. A reference letter from employers must accompany such an application.
Advance Diploma Programmes
Applicants must have attained one of the following entry qualifications:
• ABE Diploma.
• A degree awarded by a recognised UK or overseas University.
• Other recognised qualifications of approved overseas Institutions of Higher Education.
Accountancy
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Professional Examination Route:
Minimum Entry requirements to register for Part 1 of the ACCA qualification are two A Levels plus 3 GCSEs in five separate subjects (including English and Mathematics), or the equivalent. Holders of higher qualifications may attract exemptions from some of the ACCA examinations.
Mature Student Entry Route:
The mature student entry route is for students aged over 21 years, who may not hold the minimum entry qualifications. It gives students two years (a maximum of 4 consecutive attempts) in which to pass papers 1.1 and 1.2 in Part 1.
Exemptions for Degree Holders:
Holders of recognised business and/or accounting degrees will be considered for exemption from some or all of the papers in Part 1 and 2, if they have previously studied and been assessed in comparable subject areas. Students with non-relevant degrees will not receive exemption from the examinations.
